Prepare for Move-In!

Welcome to an exciting and pretty stressful time while preparing to move out and head to college! When I was an incoming freshman I had no idea what I would need and thought I had to move my entire room from home with me. FALSE! Do not take everything with you. I promise those 10 extra shirts you packed that you never wear now, will still go unworn even in a new closet. Here is a list of items that I highly recommend to have while at college 🙂

/ / FOR SCHOOL

  • Agenda

Having an agenda (and USING it) will save your life. During syllabus week write down every assignment there is for the rest of the semester!! Trust me, there is nothing more satisfying than checking off something in your agenda 🙂

  • Index Cards

If you are a visual learner like me, you will want note cards to study! If you know you have an upcoming test on new material, start making your flashcards the day you learn the material. This will make studying 10x easier by already having your flashcards made.

  • Folders

I’m not the biggest fan of carrying folders in my bookbag because everything’s done on your computer right? Wrong. For most classes, professors are going to hand out papers and you will need a place to put them! Having a folder to put any miscellaneous papers in will help you in the long run believe me.

  • Bookbag (duh)

Don’t be silly, you need a bookbag.

  • Pens & Pencils

Lots of them! Coming from a girl who loses pencils by the week, you will need pens and pencils in college!

  • Notebooks

This one is optional depending on what you or your professors prefer! I’m the person who loves to take notes on my computer because it is so much quicker for me. However, not all professors let you have your computers out during class so it doesn’t hurt to have a notebook to take notes in if that is the case!

  • Umbrella

HIGHLY ENCOURAGED! I cannot tell you how many times I have forgotten to check the weather and walked out of class and had to get soaked. Majority of people do not like to get wet so just stash a small umbrella on the side of your bookbag. If you take your chances, don’t say I didn’t warn you 😉

*optional*

  • Highlighters (if you like to be fancy)
  • Stapler/ paper clips (depends on what you prefer)
  • White-out (we all can’t be perfectionists, unfortunately you will make a mistake)
  • Calculator (unless you’re a math wiz or something)

/ / FOR YOUR ROOM

  • Laundry Bin

Yes, I hate to do laundry, but I hate dirty clothes even more! Laundry bins are a NECESSITY in college.

  • Body Length Mirror

Even though nobody cares what you wear to class, it’s still nice to see what you look like before you leave 😉

  • Mini Trash Can

Nobody thinks to buy a trash can for college, so here I am telling you to make sure to get a trash can!

  • Bed necessities

Unless you prefer sleeping on an empty mattress, I would suggest getting a mattress pad, sheets, a comforter, and pillow cases!

  • Hangers

These are great things to hang clothes on 🙂

  • Shoe Rack

This will make everything so much more neat in your closet!

*optional*

  • Blanket (probably my most used item)
  • Lamp (sometimes you need a little bit more light)
  • Small fan (you may not have a ceiling fan, so this is handy if you get hot)
  • Desk Chair (unless it comes with it)
  • Organizing bins (you will have lots of stuff with no permanent spot, just throw it in there)

/ / FOR YOUR BATHROOM

  • Shower caddy/shoes

If you are in a dorm, this is a must!

  • Towels

Required!

  • Shower things

You know, whatever you use in the shower.

  • Toothbrush/toothpaste

Your roommate(s) and fellow classmates will appreciate this one.

  • Face/Hair Products

All those fancy things you may use!

  • Deodorant

Like I said, everyone will appreciate it.

  • Toilet Paper

I don’t think this needs an explanation.

*optional*

  • Bath mat (if you’re not in a dorm)
  • Toothbrush holder (great for holding toothbrushes 🙂
  • Soap Dispenser (please wash hands with soap)

/ / OTHER

  • Medicine/First-Aid

Unfortunately, there will be times when you need this, why not already have it!

  • Paper plates/utensils

Unless you are committed to washing dishes all the time, I would suggest having these for nights you just have too much on your plate 😉

  • Detergent/dryer sheets

This will come in handy when you wash clothes.

  • Duffle Bag

You never know when you might go somewhere on the weekend!

  • Brita

If you have a fridge! Save some money and the planet 🙂

  • Small vacuum/broom

Believe it or not, your room will probably get messy.

  • Chargers

For all your techy things!
